Moving Locus to another phone or tablet

You have purchased a new mobile or tablet. Follow the instructions on how to move Locus Map, its settings and all its data (maps, tracks, points) safely into the new device:

Instructions

Step 1. - backup

Make full backup of Locus main directory

  • open a file manager (Total Commander, Solid Explorer, Xplore etc.) and find /Locus/ directory
  • zip it as e.g. “locus_backup.zip” file (optionally)
  • send it to some cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive etc.)

Android 11+

Do the first step in Locus settings > Miscellaneous > Default directories > Unload app data. No need for a third-party file manager.

Back up your maps

  • open Locus map manager > offline tab
  • backup all maps that could be lost when the app is uninstalled (especially the raster maps purchased from commercial publishers) to Dropbox or Google Drive.

You don't have to back up LoMaps. These can be re-downloaded from Locus Store for free.

Step 2. - installation

  • install the latest version of Locus Map to the new device

Step 3. - restore your data

  • download the /Locus/ directory (or its zipped file) from Dropbox or Google Drive and copy its content (unzip it) to the /Locus/ directory in the new phone - overwrite the data that was newly created during the installation
  • do the same with the maps - copy the map files to Locus/Maps directory
  • re-download LoMaps from Locus Store
  • restart Locus Map so that all the backups are properly re-initialized

Android 11+

First step - you can load the backupped data also by Locus settings > Miscellaneous > Default directories > Load app data.
