How to migrate from Locus Map Classic to Locus Map 4
Locus Map is a complex software with many customization options. Before the transfer of your data from Locus Map Classic to Locus Map 4, please pay attention to the following:
- Move the main app directory to the internal storage of your phone or tablet.
- Set all custom subdirectories to the default within the main app directory.
- Check the version of your Android OS and perform the data transfer by the instructions given for each version individually:
Android 13+
- open Locus Map Classic menu > more functions > Backup Manager > make a full manual backup
- go to settings > Miscellaneous > Default directories > Unload app data - select some accessible sector of the phone storage, e.g. /Emulated/0/Download/, create “locus_data” folder in it and execute the unload

Note:
In some rare cases, the procedure above may fail for unknown reasons. If something like that happens, we recommend transferring the app data manually with the help of a PC:
- connect your phone to a PC via USB and allow file transfer on the phone
- copy all files from Android/data/menion.android.locus.pro/files/Locus to Android/data/menion.android.locus/files/Locus (overwrite all its contents) in the phone's internal storage
- disconnect the phone and restart Locus Map 4
Android 6 - 10
By default, both apps share the same working directory at the root of the internal storage but each has a different database structure and settings. So please do the following:
- make a complete backup of Locus Map Classic data
- install Locus Map 4
- open the backup file in Locus Map 4 backup manager
- restore the backup
- restart Locus Map 4
- uninstall Locus Map Classic - after database conversion by Locus Map 4, the app is “empty”
It is not possible to use both Locus Map 4 and Locus Map Classic with one shared directory. LM 4 uses a different database structure. Installing LM 4 in the same directory converts the database to LM 4 version and disables LM Classic from reading the database.
